Welcome to Nodd's Neighborhood

What is Nodd's Neighborhood?

The simple answer is that Nodd's Neighborhood is the most trusted name in Beaverton. The more accurate answer, however, is that Nodd's Neighborhood is...

      1. Your community website
      2. The city's guide to local churches and apartments
      3. Your business liaison to the Beaverton School District
      4. Your connection to local non-profit organizations
      5. Your ambassador to the Chamber of Commerce
      6. Your voice in city hall (through the city's Committee for Citizen's Involvement)
      7. The research, operations and funding arm of the Beaverton Historical Society
      8. A tourist information Site
      9. Your link to local parks (through THPRD)
    10. An organization that's committed to everything local

Who is Nodds?

Hello, I know what you're thinking, but my name is not Nodds. It's actually Michael and I created Beaverton's Community Website, fondly naming it Nodd's Neighborhood (a bit more friendly than ‘Neighborhood of Online Dedicated Directory Services' don't you think?).

When I was new here, I quickly fell in love with the city despite the frustration of not being able to find anything. I spent endless hours searching the Internet for places to eat, shop or whatever all the while thinking that someone should create a better way. Well, as it turns out, that someone became me, and after almost a year of hard work taking pictures and documenting the location of every store, apartment, church and school, we launched Nodd's Neighborhood in January 2007.

Nodds is all about community. We understand that people like to do business with people, not with a logo, so rather than advertise businesses, we tell their stories! That helps you, the customer, make a more personal connection. Big name brand stores are in every city. We believe that it is the small, local and home businesses that make Beaverton a community - a place we can be happy to call home - and it's to these local stores that Nodds is committed. We call this "community building." So please... help me in my goal of promoting our small and local businesses: go to Nodds.org, read the reviews, use their coupons and support them. Visit their places of business and give them a chance. Why? It's simple... because they're our neighbors.

Why get a Community Profile?

Easy. A Nodds Community Profile can be the first best step toward getting referral business.

But let's back up to the beginning. There are three basic steps that, if followed in order, will end up with business referrals from your customers:

  1. Know
  2. Like
  3. Trust ... then refer!

Following these steps, any business (organization, church, apartment complex... etc) can get and retain loyal customers but more important, it can get those customers to refer you out to everyone they know

That's the goal: referrals.

The catch is that you cannot skip a step in the process. Just like in any relationship, trust does not come automatically; it's earned by following the above steps. Traditional advertising often goes for the "trust" while a Nodds Community Profile speaks the "know" and the "like".

Traditional Advertising vs. A Nodds Community Profile

Traditional advertising . . .
. . . like those commonly used in direct mail, newspapers, yellow pages and coupon magazines often break the rules by going straight to the "trust me campaign" with cliché phrases like "LOWEST PRICES IN TOWN!" or "QUALITY YOU CAN COUNT ON!!" or "#1 IN CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!"

Do we immediately believe these claims? No. And that's why the return on something as common as direct mail, for example, is a woeful 1% - 1.5%. The trick for traditional advertising is to repeat the process over and over and over. It can pay off but it's a slow and very expensive process.

A Nodd's Community Profile . . .
. . . on the other hand, is all about helping new and existing customers get to "know" and "like" you, the important first two steps in building customers that refer you. For any local business or organization, we'll interview the owner to help tell their story of how they got to where they are and why. We like to devote at least half of their Community Profile to the people behind the business and their connection to the community. The other half of the profile summarizes the businesses website (if it has one) highlighting important products and services. What you get is not only a brochure website, it's a personalized, printable marketing piece that helps you connect with your community.

The goal of your Community Profile is to help a new customer feel like they already know something about you before they step through your door or go to your website. It's hard to say good things about yourself in your own ad or website and have it come across as sincere. So why not let Nodds do it in a community profile. Let us tell your story to help create the beginnings of what hopefully will become a happy and long-term relationship with new customers. As Will Rogers once said, "Get someone else to blow your horn and the sound will carry twice as far."

Know -> Like: Your Nodds Community Profile targets these important first two steps. And without these, it's an uphill challenge to build the trust necessary to get your customers to refer you to others.

Characteristics of a Community Profile?

A Community Profile is a:

  • Business listing in our visual directories
  • Editable website that comes up separately in Google
  • Business review and 3rd party endorsement by a community resource
  • Print brochure to handout and distribute
  • Online coupon listing (using the optional coupon creator)
  • Local advertisement that connects you to your community

How much does a Nodds listing cost?

Nodds has three listings:

  1. Free Listing: Lists your contact details.
  2. Expanded Listing, $65 one-time setup fee: Listing is bolded and includes your website.
  3. Community Profile Listing, $65 setup fee and $35/month: Includes a community webpage, a print brochure, online coupon and more.

Nodds.org is dedicated to the small, local and home businesses in the Beaverton area. The big guys can easily take care of themselves and have marketing budgets to afford traditional advertising, spending thousands of dollars per year. As a community resource, a Nodd's Community Profile provides substantially more value and for just over a dollar a day. $65 sets up your profile and then it's only $35 per month from there.
