1. What is Nodd's Neighborhood and is it only in Beaverton?

Nodd's Neighborhood is Beaverton's Community Website. It's a visual directory of all facets of the community: shopping, apartments, senior facilities, churches and other places of worship, schools (public and private), parks, city services and organizations. Currently Nodds only covers Beaverton, Oregon but has plans to expand to other cities as time and resources permit.

2. Who is Nodd?

Although NODDS officially stands for Neighborhood of Online Dedicated Directory Services, he is also a virtual character and personality behind the community website. He is currently faceless but writes all the reviews from his personal experience. He is your neighbor and epitomizes all that is good in a community leader: friendly, giving, trustworthy, honest, a champion of the little guy, a cheerleader to the underdog, a helpful hand and a loving parent. His goal is to become the most trusted name in the community.

3. How do you use this site?

Map: The map is very useful when you know where a store is but can't remember it's name or if you just want to know what all the stores are in a particular mall or location.

Search: Use the Nodds Search area to find specific product or services. You can even find businesses by typing in a phone number, address or even the storeowner's name.

Referral Center: When you need something but don't where to go, my first suggestion is to ask a friend. There is nothing better than a good referral from someone who knows the business. But if your friend doesn't know, well, better than choosing blindly, go check out who we recommend in our referral center.

1. What's the difference between a circles and a circle with a dot in it?

Refer to the legend at the bottom, left area of each map to see what each circle means. For the shopping map, a circle with a dot in it represents a mall or shopping center. For the apartment map, it means that there's a senior facility nearby. For the school map, it means that it's an elementary school and in the church map, it signifies multiple churches at that spot, even sharing the same building.

2. Why are parts of Beaverton not shown on the map, while parts of Aloha are?

Unfortunately, Beaverton is shaped pretty crazy with parts of it intertwined with Aloha, Hillsboro and Portland. To make it all fit would have made the map too big so I decided to put as much of Beaverton as we could into a good sized box. Since the box contained parts of neighborhoods where residents of Beaverton shop, we added some of their locations too. Not to worry though, the rest of Beaverton and the surrounding communities will all make it on to Nodd's Neighborhood soon. We also have plans to convert our map using the Google API so stay tuned.

3. I live in Tigard. When will the rest of Tigard make it into Nodd's Neighborhood?

Beaverton is just the first Nodd's Neighborhood. As soon as we are established, we will hit the surrounding neighborhoods like Tigard and Hillsboro. If you would like to help bring Nodd's Neighborhood to your area sooner, please contact us.

4. Why can't I zoom in and see the names of smaller streets on the map?

Nodd's neighborhood is all about shopping and as it turns out, most shopping areas are along the major avenues. Since most of you live and work in the neighborhood, you probably know the back streets and shortcuts pretty well. But just in case you need a little help, we provide a Google map link on every mall and store brochure page. But like I mentioned before, all this will be solved when we change over to using the Google API.

5. Do you list business parks and office buildings?

Yes and no. Nodds does not go out of its way to list business parks or office buildings since our priority is to list service and retail businesses with a customer friendly storefront. However, if a business park or office building is located in or adjacent to a retail shopping area, then we may include it in the nearest shopping directory. You can also find some business park businesses in our Virtual Mall located at the bottom left corner of the map.

1. I can't find a store in the mall directory. Does this mean it went out of business?

No. Please understand that small stores come and go all the time. So while our directories are mostly accurate, there will be some lag between a new store arriving or departing and that change being reflected in our directories. If you know of a store in is situation of limbo, please contact us and let us know, we'll correct it right away.

2. How come I can't find the store's hours or community profile?

Storeowners can list their store hours and other details for free and as they provide us their information, we'll be sure to post it right away. For even more details, stores can sign up for an community profile which includes business details, Google map, store and storeowner info, pictures and optional review and online coupon.

3. How do I find a plumber or gardener who doesn't have a store?

There are many businesses that would not appear in a store directory on the map. These include home businesses (like a gardener), business park or office building businesses, and stores that are located off the map. These businesses can subscribe to become part of our search database and will be located in our virtual mall.

4. How do you choose which businesses are in the referral area?

Businesses included in the referral center are subjectively chosen based upon our own positive experiences but in no way guarantee a positive experience by everyone who patron these businesses. Nodds therefore recommends that you do your own research, talk to the business and ask detailed questions before making a purchasing decision.
