Nodd's Review What is your ‘key' to success?
For me, I wasn't too sure. Work hard, be kind, make a useful community website maybe? Something like that. But that was before I had the honor of meeting a man like John Davis Jr. of Davis Lock & Safe. Located on TV Hwy at 170th Ave, even short time Beaverton residents know of the big yellow building that easily stands out on the other side of the train tracks. It's been there a long time, since the late ‘70's I was told. And it's a family business that's well respected for giving back to the community that has supported them throughout the years. "I believe in supporting our family business," his eldest daughter Marlena told me, "I want to be there for my parents and help them provide a good service to our customers." And good service indeed. For while I was there waiting for Mr. Davis to arrive, I needed battery for my car remote, but it was a size they did not have in stock. So Marlena gave a quick call to her father and a few minutes later, Mr. Davis arrived after making a quick detour to Radio Shack. "I'm the type of guy that's always gotta help," he told me later during our interview. "thing about life... it's not for myself but for my family and my customers. I have a responsibility and my customers depend on that." And it's a good thing too because if your locked out of your car, house or place of business, you can count on Davis Lock and Safe to come to the rescue, day or night. They don't have to do emergency calls but I think they provide this important service because it helps people who are the most needy. And it's this attitude and principle that has earned Mr. Davis the respect of his peers, both local and national. "Everyone in the business knows of John Davis" I was told by Jeff Seeber, a local contractor, "he has a good reputation of professionalism and high standards of customer service." Yeah, even I can attest to that and I just met him. So I was going to just do a short interview there in the store but no, he instead took me out to breakfast. "He's one of the most generous men around" one of his employees told me and I believe it. No, I know it. I've met him, seen him at work and experienced the power of his commitment to his family, his work and his customers. A self-made man with decades of experience and a dedication to his customers that always ends in a smile, laugh or warm handshake, John Davis Jr. and his team at Davis Lock & Safe are the ‘safe' bet when needing help with a lock or key.
