Nodd's Review Why do we love this organization so much? Simple. Get to Know Your Neighbor does for you, the Beaverton Resident, what we at Nodds are trying to do for the city. That’s why. Let me explain: how many of us can remember the store next to our haircut place that we visit all the time? What do they do, what do they sell, when are they open? Well, this is what Nodd’s Neighborhood is here for. Now think about this: how many of us know the last names of the persons who live in the house or apartment next to us and have been there for years? What do they do? Where did they come from? What are their hobbies? What about the people in the house two doors down or across the street? Well, this is what Get to Know Your Neighbor is all about!
Do you really know your neighbor? Native peoples in many countries have gotten this one right. Each family has their own homes but they have no barriers separating them. So their neighbors end up becoming something like an extended family. But in our ever-fearful society, our trend has been to put up bigger fences and stronger deadbolts. It’s really a shame and that’s why I am recommending that you contact Alton at Get to Know Your Neighbor. One of the kindest gentlemen you’ll ever meet, Alton is passionate about breaking down the barriers that keep us hidden from the people who essentially live with us, we just don’t see them. Give him a call or drop him an email and Alton will help you, your street or your block take steps to becoming great neighbors and good friends.
We put up barriers to feel more protected but imagine how much safer we’d feel if we knew that the ten neighbors around us were looking out for us, our home and our families. We decorate our homes to feel happy and comfortable there but imagine the amount of joy, cheer and goodwill we would have if we could celebrate our homes with our neighbors… birthdays, block parties, holidays, new babies, new pets, new friends!
So what are you waiting for? Get to know your neighbor and the first neighbor I’d start with is Alton Harvey Sr… the best neighbor Beaverton ever had!
