Nodd's Review If you own a digital camera - as I'm sure many of you do - then I'm sure that you have a ton of photo memories taken by family and friends. Me? Well, ever since we got our two puppies (Ginger and Teddy) last year, my wife has found herself a new hobby: making puppy clothes and then posing the kids for pictures. And while my wife, family and friends have taken some very nice photo memories of us, I knew that if we really wanted to capture this moment, when our ‘kids' were at their cutest, we couldn't have a photo memory taken by just anyone, we needed some Photo Memories by Harvey.
Introducing Harvey Thomas Jr., photographer extraordinaire. And I don't say this because he did such a great job at our photo shoot. I say this because he is perhaps the most accomplished photographer in all of Beaverton. Exaggeration? Judge for yourself. Harvey began his career in photography over 40 years ago using the model T of 35mm cameras, the Argus C3. In his many years doing professional photo shoots, he has taken pictures for the Miss America pageant, the Miss Oregon pageant and is the official photographer for the Portland Golf Club and ITC International Conventions. The more famous names to his credit include Nelson Rockefeller, Bert Parks and the crown princess of Japan. Asked what he likes about his job, "I enjoy people" was the simple reply.
So there we were at our friend Donna's house trying to gather up the puppies for the portrait. Harvey was busy adjusting the flash settings on his two enormous strobes and Donna was sneaking about taking some candid shots with her point and shoot. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and Harvey, never lacking a smile, told me much of his story that I am relaying to you here. When it was time for the shoot, he touched up my face with some powdery stuff and then looked into his bag for the perfect puppy toy with which to grab our kid's attention. "Squeek, sqeek, snap". 25 shots later and we were viewing them on Harvey's laptop, choosing the pictures we liked. It was a great experience and the portrait came out perfect... thanks Harvey!
A veteran of local area weddings, graduations and family gatherings, Harvey is loved by all who get to know him. "Harvey did both of our daughters' weddings," says Barbara Peschka. "We can't imagine anyone else doing our family photography. In fact, we consider him part of the family!" Having lived in the Beaverton area for over 39 years, I'm sure there are many such testimonials from many happy customers.
