Nodd's Review If you needed to do a job search, where would you start? Sure, places like Monster, Job Dango or even Craigslist have zillions of listings for you to sort through but for many, it's a daunting task of typing in search terms and then scanning through the zillions of partially related postings in order to find that one hidden gem. But what are the alternatives? Headhunters are selective and industry job fairs are few and far between. Well, what if I suggested the state owned Worksource Oregon as a possibility?
Now, I don't know about you but when I think of a state run program or agency, I think of a dull tortoise playing in the mud and not a zippy roadrunner paving new paths. Boy was I ever wrong! Introducing Lonnie Martinez, Business Representative with Oregon's employment department who set the record straight for me. "iMatchSkills is a cutting edge proprietary system found only in Oregon," Lonnie told me from a booth at Ava Roasteria. "It updates every fifteen minutes and is superior to any other system out there for finding whatever job is out there, from minimum wage to executive level." Here's how it works for a job seeker:
- Login to iMatchSkills and create your detailed profile (www.imatchskills.org)
- iMatchSkills will then automatically match you to jobs listed in its database
- Check the ‘Match Me to Jobs' area often to see new matches
- If you see a job you like, submit your interest and an account representative will check to make sure that your selection is indeed a good match for your skill set.
- If all is a go, you will receive the company's name and an interview will be setup
No more hunting and digging, with iMatchSkills, the jobs come to you. And if you are a job provider with a business in the Beaverton area, it's even easier to find the right candidate: just give Lonnie a call, quick and simple. He'll drop on by and learn about your company, then explain about the free service the employment department offers. Yes, you read it correctly, it's a free service fully paid for by the money taken in through payroll taxes.
Beep - beep, look out and get on board because finding a job or filling a position just got easier thanks to our taxes at work and the dedicated state employees like Lonnie Martinez.
Congratulations to Lonnie Martinez, Beaverton's Who's Who for 1Q2008
Nodds is happy to induct Lonnie Martinez with Worksource Oregon into the select list of Beaverton's Who's Who for his public service and community activities.
I remember first meeting Lonnie back in the Winter of 2006 at a Chamber of Commerce Coffee Connection event held on Friday mornings. It was freezing outside but Lonnie was cheerfully greeting people at the door. And as the MC made a ‘short joke' directed at Lonnie, he cheerfully laughed and said a few words back, smile never leaving his face. Then after the event, he weaved his way through the crowd introducing himself, cheerful as ever, to all the newcomers, including me. That's the Lonnie I know and am honored to introduce to you.
As a state employee for Worksource Oregon, Lonnie is definitely not your stereotypical government worker bored with his job and going through the motions. No. It's quite the contrary actually. Lonnie seems to throw himself into his job with such passion one might think this was his own non-profit charity and he were out to save the world. But this is not a charity, it's the Employment Department and Lonnie is out there, not quite saving the world but he is doing his share for Beaverton.
"I love what I do," said Lonnie. "I love helping people realize a job while helping businesses fulfill their work force needs." Outreach to businesses, facilitating job fairs and matching candidates to positions are just a few of the duties he performs as a Business Representative. But Lonnie also wears the hat of a Youth Services Representative for Beaverton and it's here, with this hat on, that we really get to see his passion. "My goal is to make sure that youths are aware that there are jobs out there for them." So it's not uncommon to find Lonnie at a high school, career center or special event helping kids become adults.
Outside of his work, Lonnie continues his spirit of cheerful community giving.

For your tireless and cheerful contribution to Beaverton, we thank you and recognize your efforts. Welcome to Worksource Oregon I am Lonnie Martinez, Business & Youth Services representative for Worksource Portland Metro, Tualatin. I am also the Chair of the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Committee.
My service area is Beaverton, Aloha, and parts of Southwest Portland Metro. My job, in a nutshell, is to inform the business community and job seekers of the many services available to them from Worksource Oregon. Oregon has what's called a "Public Labor Exchange" which means we help Employers find employees and help Job Seekers find gainful employment. Seems pretty simple...but not quite.
I like to think I know a lot of what's going on in Beaverton from new businesses to potential lay-offs to business growth. I look for opportunities to be involved in our community because to me "Knowledge is Power" and the more you know, the better informed decisions you can make. You can share your knowledge with people who have questions and pick up information along the way. From a Recruiter to an Independent Business owner, I share as much Labor Market Information as I can with anyone who wants to hear it.
I look forward to working with you,
Lonnie
Business Representative and iMatchSkills
On a typical day I could be found at an employer's office, by their side, showing them how to write a Job Listing in our award winning, internet based, self directed iMatchSkills referral system. This skills based matching system uses skills to match job seekers to open job opportunities around the Beaverton area and everywhere else in Oregon. It functions as an excellent screening tool for employers and job seekers to ensure the match is based on the skills a job seeker possess and the skills an employers wants a candidate to have. In the past, job titles were used to hire people in specific jobs. Now, you use the skills you posses from paid work, volunteer work, or even hobbies that you can offer for a job. iMatchSkills saves time and money matching only by skills so a job seeker isn't sent to apply for a job they might not be able to do and an employer doesn't get a candidate that doesn't have the skills necessary to perform the duties of their job. iMatchSkills provides a much better match for both Job Seekers and Employers. Other duties or projects as requested.
Use iMatchSkills to find your next job or employee!
Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Chair, Community Services
As an Ambassador for The Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce I can be found at ribbon cuttings for new local businesses, assisting at our weekly Coffee Connection networking opportunities, facilitating our Ambassador Committee meetings at Hometown Buffet, acting as a liaison for the Youth and Business community or at the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce Biz-Ed Action Team meetings, just to name a few. As a recent Graduate of Leadership Beaverton, I have a passion for Beaverton, its economic viability, citizens, youth and success. As part of my work for Worksource Oregon, I partner with other agencies and keep my ear to the ground in Beaverton to assist business and Job Seekers to be aware of each other. Any other duties as requested.
Youth Services Representative
I can sometimes be found in one of the local High Schools giving a presentation to 600 High School students on interviewing skills or participating in Mock Interviews. I do class enrollments into our iMatchskills referral program to enable them to search for jobs at their leisure. I have been coordinating an annual Teen Summer Job Fair to assist Youth with their first Job and local Employers find motivated employees. The key to this event is to put the Job Seeker in front of an Employer, face to face, without their parent, counselor, teacher or any other previous support, to experience the process of seeking out and applying for, in some cases, their first job. Other duties or projects as requested.
