What? A 5 star cruise ship docked here in Beaverton?!?

Well, not exactly. But this may be the closest thing. Welcome to Hearthstone at Murrayhill, the closest thing to living on a cruise ship (minus the rocking back and forth, of course).

As I entered the lobby, I was greeted by Beverly (Bev) Ecker, manager and owner of this family business. But although her smile was warm and welcoming, it was the magnificent fountain that impressed me most. “We have 4 fountains here at Hearthstone,” Bev told me. "Well, five, if you count the little waterfall and stream that run under the Model Railroad in the Memory Care courtyard." Combined with the two beautifully landscaped courtyards and outside areas, the ambience is both inviting and peaceful.

Bev and I continued our conversation over lunch: salad, butter rolls, green pea soup, Fillet of soul w/mixed greens and mashed potatoes, and dessert (which I unfortunately was too full to eat). While I was thinking that this could surely have been a meal on any cruise ship, Bev said that her family "believes in the home environment"; and that when a resident comes to Hearthstone, “they come home”.

“Everything you need is taken care of,” 18 month resident Nancy told me in the hallway, “the people are so nice and I especially like the activities, trips and Christmas lights.” Later on in my tour, Mr. Caldwell took a short break between his expert Wii golf strokes to tell me that he’s been at Hearthstone for over 7 years and he’s been having fun ever since he arrived. “It’s just like home here… just a larger family.”

So maybe Hearthstone doesn’t run a cruise ship after all but that’s okay because they may have something better:
a lovely home with a large friendly family.
